Improvements in treating Pompey disease.  It’s keeping children from dying.  This little girl in Michigan is taking this drug.  Her older sister died of this disease, but it looks like she’ll live due to research supported by MDA.

Ron Lucas is back.   “Gateway to America’s Got Talent?”  Ouch.  This kid is flipping out at the puppet.  Awesome.

The Commodores!  This is twent bucks a seat at a casino folks right here.

Summer Sanders!  I remember when she was much cuter

Drumroll….

$6,123,704

And now it’s time for Maureen McGovern.  No clue what the song is.  She cut an album with Placido Domingo.  That’s pretty praiseworthy.

A video from the mailman’s union!  “The greatest postal system in the world”.  Wow, I’d hate to see the sucky ones.

Did that mailman from New Jersey just flash me a gangbanger sign?  That would be pretty scary, or hilarious.

The mailmen just gave $700,000.  I wonder if that one mailman was running drugs or pimping for part of that.

Now more firemen.  Sasketoon Saskatchewan?
I want monkeys!

Homebuilders have cut a check for 1.6 million.

They hold a golf tournament to help raise money. Norm says it’s nice to know that a game which causes him such pain can do so much good. Speaking of which, I notice no one holds soccer tournaments as fundraisers. Soccer sucks!
Tom Bergeron!

Louie Anderson is on? Didn’t he commit suicide?

Ok, I liked the “I don’t use the ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs. I carry crime scene tape”

Tina Forbes has come out. She’s a success story from one of these new treatments.

Jerry’s going to direct the Nutty Professor musical on Broadway.  The guy that’s gonna do the lead is doing a medley.  He’s pretty good.  Michael Andrews is his name.

I was wondering when Norm Crosby was going to show up.

And now we get an American Idol finalist.  Ace Young.

The 7Up people just gave half a million

Gospel time! Yolanda Adams.  This is making me wonder:  Whatever happened to Thelma Hopkins.  Honestly, I’m half expecting her to show up.  That would be, to quote the internet, teh awesome.

2.2 million dollars from the 24 Hour Fitness people.  If I caught this right, the founder has come down with ALS.  Wow.  Can you imagine being in the health and physical fitness world and then…bam.  You’re in a wheelchair and can barely talk.  Jerry’s crying, he’s called Augie (the 24 hour fitness guy) the most giving man he’s ever met “and I can’t help him”.

Donate now, folks.

Drumroll…..

$4,020,860

Now it’s time for the firefighters.  CO Springs over $100,00

Louie Anderson and Maureen McGovern coming up!

This is fascinating. Every year I try to figure out who shows up because they want to help Jerry out, and who is there because their agent is telling them this is a great career move.

I didn’t miss Tony Orlando. He’s doing “If I Saw You In Heaven”. Apparently, one of Jerry’s former poster children passed away a few weeks ago. Tony is the “best Puerto Rican ever to come to America”. Wow.

Time for a Prof. to give a pitch for supporting research. I’m betting this is when people give. I’m betting this one doesn’t; there’s no kids in it. This version of MD has had it’s mortailty rate go from 65% to 5%.

The got some guys on from Outback Steakhouse. This Tom Shannon guy reminds me of Charles Napier so much, it’s scary. John Madden hosts one of their events. And here’s Johnny. Outback just gave 1.5 million They’ve also been feeding the troops in Iraq and Kuwait.

Somebody remind me to hit Outback once in a while.

Telethon

Filed under: General — Der Tommissar @

I’ll explain where I’ve been in a bit. Right now it’s time to live blog a piece of pure Americana: The Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy telethon. Gather your children. people, who knows how long Jerry is going to be able to do this.

When I was a kid, this marked the official end of summer for us. You were going to school the week the telethon came on. It was a mark of the changing of the seasons. I think it made me a sucker for variety shows. Seriously folks, where else can you see Paul Anka cover Van Halen’s Jump, Bob Zany, a concert violinist and at least two animal acts. You should feel guilty for not having to pay for this level of awesome. Lessen you guilt by making a donation today!
Jerry Lewis has just finished a puppet act with Ron Lucas the puppet guy. I guess this is some new development in ventriloquist technology where they pull some guy out of the auidience and give him a big fake mouth. Then the ventriloquist does his act with the fake mouth moving.
Drumroll………

$2,047,900

Tony Orlando and David Cassidy up next!

I went to make some brats; hope I didn’t miss Tony Orlando. That’s too horrid to contemplate. Was Howard Stern playing guitar on the David Cassidy number?
The CEO of Harley Davidson is on. Apparently, they run a summer camp for kids with Muscular Dystrophy. They just gavce a second check for $800,00

Ed McMahon started talking about Safeway, and it looks like the Real Player feed has broken. Someone fix this! I guess I’m missing Tony Orlando for sure now!

It just hit me: we must be in the local affiliate segment, so the mda site is showing nothing. I just need to wait till 11. There better be a trained monkey act sometime tonight.
