Ecumenism!

I love iconbusters. They’re like the pretending-to-be-a-thinking-man’s Jack Chick.

Be sure to check out the “Friends” page. Anyone who lists Ian Paisley has to be hitting on all cylinders.

Whatever you do, be sure to catch the Pope’s Last Will. I love “Reformed Protestant Christian” charity!

To Condoleezza Rice, my African sister of color, I bequeath my Playmobile Nun. May it give her the innumerable hours of pleasure it gave me…….

You can tell it’s a total fake, because the Pope used a “J” instead of an “I” for his name. He always spelled it, “Johannes”.

Oh well, after you’ve had your hilarity, say a rosary for them. Then email them to tell them you’ve done so.

Everywhere I look, it reminds me of food. Look at these books: Charles LAMB, Herman WOK, The Complete Works of Sir Francis BACON, Eric Van Lusbader.

I’ve known the MaryHunter for a few months, and have found him to be a well-read and gracious fellow. One question I’ve repeatedly asked myself during that time is: “When is he going to start his own blog?”

Finally, there is an answer to that, TMH’s Bacon Bits.

A scientist and a gentleman, you owe it to yourself to pay him a visit.

Happy Birthday to Crystal at Crystal Clear.

Personally, I’d prefer my birthdays to run along the lines of that one German general in “The Longest Day”. I want six people standing stiffly around a cake, holding champagne glasses. Then I want one guy to click his heels and say, “Happy Birthday, Tom.”then we all drink. After that, he hands me a knife to cut the cake. I then take the knife and cut the cake, while saying, “I suppose you expect me to eat it as well.” Then everyone laughs dutifully.

But however Crystal likes to celebrate /her/ birthday, I hope nothing but the best for her today.

Pius XII
You are Pope Pius XII. You’re efficient and
dedicated, but not very approachable.

It’s true. We both had reservations about making Archbishop Montini a Cardinal! I also dig the glasses. If I ever need to get a pair, that’s what I’m looking for.

Tonight was one of those nights where I can see that my wife and I have progressed in our relationship. I had the munchies, and headed into the room with something guaranteed to make anyone run for the door. My wife has this almost annoying curiosity about her. She needs the answers to everything. In any event she asks me, “What do you have there?”

I like Mass better in Latin. It’s nicer when you don’t know what they’re saying.

This post had been coming for a while, but it was kicked to the front burner when the author of Blog By Knight explained what being a “Messianic Jew” was. It made me really want to explain how I practice the Catholic Faith.

If you’re reading this, Beth, you know that means you may skip this post!

Mark Langston
Mark Langston, Alan White and an unknown Mariner, c. 1988

Clip: “Stormy Weather” by Lena Horne

This post is an homage to a great blog. I’m trying to mimic the format.

The blog in question is Mark Sullivan’s Irish Elk. In it, he hits on something with which I totally agree. To quote him:

4) Marilyn Monroe: Picking up on a theme earlier sounded by the Llama Butchers: At a time when you had the likes of Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn or, say, Pier Angeli around, how did MM get placed in the celestial pantheon? Try sitting through The Misfits, sometime: of the two main actresses, Thelma Ritter ultimately is the one you’d want to take home, and that’s saying something.

I agree, I never understood the fascination with Monroe. I’ll save my comments for another post, though. This one is an homage to Mark.

He generally throws out a sentence at a time. They are usually loaded with gems.

Irish John has the list of bases to be closed.

I picked the picture above because I’ve been a Mariners fan since 1979. I was born in Philadelphia.

That’s yet another story.

Mark Langston signed a card for me when he was an Expo, I’m such a huge fan I even forgive him for that whole “Captain Planet” thing. One of his Fleer baseball cards is actually a picture of him signing a baseball card of his I brought to Vet Stadium with me.

I still geek out over that.

More Langston pictures here and here.

If I could be…

I’ve been remiss the last several days in writing. It’s been due to a number of reasons, including a bout of the flu, moving to a new house, and a flaky Internet connection.

The only way to get back on track, of course, is to start writing. Therefore I’ll tackle a meme-thing passed onto me by the one and only Jade.

If I could be a scientist…
If I could be a farmer…
If I could be a musician…
If I could be a doctor…
If I could be a painter…
If I could be a gardener…
If I could be a missionary…
If I could be a chef…
If I could be an architect…
If I could be a linguist…
If I could be a psychologist…
If I could be a librarian…
If I could be an athlete…
If I could be a lawyer…
If I could be an innkeeper…
If I could be a professor…
If I could be a writer…
If I could be a backup dancer…
If I could be a llama-rider…
If I could be a bonnie pirate…
If I could be a midget stripper…
If I could be a proctologist…
If I could be a TV-Chat Show host…
If I could be a knish-stuffer…
